Responsibilities

  • Own finance-related AI workflows end to end, from problem definition and design through production launch and ongoing improvement.
  • Design and build agentic and LLM-based systems using extraction, retrieval, reasoning, tool use, structured outputs, validation, fallbacks, and confidence scoring.
  • Design RAG components including chunking, embeddings, vector search, and re-ranking when workflows require grounding in customer documents or policies.
  • Integrate AI services with backend systems using reliable API contracts, retries, graceful degradation, and per-customer data isolation.
  • Build evaluation sets, automated evaluations, logging, tracing, dashboards, alerts, and quality monitoring to detect regressions and production issues.
  • Maintain auditable records of AI decisions for regulated financial products.
  • Set shared AI engineering patterns and tooling, review system designs, and help engineers use coding agents and AI tools effectively.
  • Collaborate directly with customers, finance users, Product, and Backend Engineering to identify workflow problems and define success metrics.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years building and operating LLM or AI-powered systems in production.
  • Experience owning a large system or workflow from scoping and design through launch and iteration with limited direction.
  • Hands-on experience shipping LLM-powered applications through APIs such as Anthropic or OpenAI, including structured outputs, error handling, and evaluation.
  • Experience designing agentic or multi-step AI workflows with tool use, orchestration, and human review steps, or RAG systems using vector databases such as pgvector, Pinecone, or Weaviate.
  • Strong Python proficiency and solid backend fundamentals, including relational databases, asynchronous patterns, and a major cloud provider.
  • Regular experience using AI coding agents and tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex, with an understanding of their limitations.
  • Experience with observability for AI systems, including logging, tracing, dashboards, and quality monitoring.
  • Professional fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Preferred: fintech, financial services, regulated-industry, finance workflow automation, startup or scale-up experience, technical leadership, Spanish or Portuguese fluency, or open-source, technical writing, or speaking experience.
