Responsibilities

  • Define and own the technical architecture for backend systems.
  • Lead the design of distributed backend platforms and microservices, setting standards for reliability, scalability, security, and performance.
  • Mentor and elevate engineers while fostering engineering excellence.
  • Identify and mitigate systemic technical risks and proactively surface architectural trade-offs.
  • Align engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders around technical direction.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience designing and building backend systems, including large-scale distributed systems in production.
  • Production experience with Go, Java, or comparable programming languages.
  • Expertise in distributed systems, API design, microservice architecture, event-driven systems, data consistency models, and failure/resilience patterns.
  • Architectural-level experience with AWS or GCP, including cost modeling and infrastructure strategy for large-scale systems.
  • Strong proficiency with relational databases.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to make, defend, and revise technical decisions based on evidence.
  • Passion for gaming and experience architecting backend platforms for player experiences is a bonus.
  • Experience architecting online service platforms or backend systems for AAA games is a bonus.
