Responsibilities

Design, build, and evolve customer-facing onX Hunt experiences across mobile applications, APIs, backend services, and data systems.
Own technical solutions from design through delivery, including architecture, performance, scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability decisions.
Build, support, debug, and continuously improve large-scale systems throughout their lifecycle.
Partner with Product, Design, QA, and engineers across teams to deliver cohesive customer experiences and manage cross-team dependencies.
Write maintainable, well-tested code using unit, integration, and acceptance testing.
Review code, share technical knowledge, and mentor and support other engineers.
Explore and integrate AI as a repeatable copilot in daily engineering workflows with appropriate validation.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
At least five years of professional software development experience, including at least three years focused professionally on API development.
Experience building and debugging distributed, scalable microservices architectures.
Strong knowledge of modern API and systems design and development, supported by a strong computer science foundation.
Experience with relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL.
Experience with Go, Elixir, or other functional programming languages.
Experience with iOS or Android development.
Ability to evaluate technologies based on merit, stability, performance, debuggability, and maintainability.
Strong ownership, mentoring, collaboration, customer advocacy, and curiosity about new technologies including AI.
Permanent US work authorization and willingness to travel occasionally for multiple days to an onX office or strategic location.
Preferred experience includes GraphQL, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Google Cloud Platform, PostGIS, CockroachDB, event-based workflows, and distributed-team collaboration.

Distributed work arrangement with remote workforce Basecamps and headquarters in Bozeman and Missoula, Montana, plus other US locations.
Base salary range of $130,000–$153,000, annual bonus eligibility, and common share options for full-time employees.
