Intermediate Software Engineer in Canada

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship agent capabilities, including Vertex AI-based Discovery Agents, from design through production.
  • Harden proof-of-concept agent code with improved error handling, observability, testing, cost, and latency.
  • Design test cases and evaluation checks for non-deterministic agent behavior.
  • Build and maintain AWS-based data ingestion and pipeline work feeding the agents.
  • Partner with Product and senior engineers to translate business requirements into shipped features.
  • Contribute to monitoring, alerting, production support, and incident response for an AI-driven service.
  • Use AI coding assistants and review generated output before release.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in a software engineering or development role.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or another backend language, with the ability to write clean, readable, and testable code.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL databases and basic REST API design.
  • Experience with AWS and exposure to data pipeline tools such as PySpark or Airflow.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants and at least one project involving an LLM that calls tools or functions, chains steps, or coordinates multiple steps.
  • Preferred exposure to orchestration and big-data tools including Apache Airflow, Dagster, Spark, Presto, Trino, or Hive.
  • Preferred exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools including Terraform or AWS CDK.
  • Interest or coursework in identity verification, fraud, security, or fintech is preferred.
