Responsibilities

  • Define the target architecture and scalable operating model for self-hosted Renovate across tens of thousands of GitLab repositories.
  • Architect distributed workers, runners, job scheduling, caching, API and registry rate-limit handling, repository discovery, and onboarding.
  • Define version-controlled Renovate configurations, shared presets, update strategies, grouping rules, time windows, and auto-merge policies.
  • Establish security, compliance, credential management, least-privilege access, and prioritization for security and CVE-driven updates.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, dashboards, and operational KPIs.
  • Own project planning, roadmap prioritization, rollout management, and pilot-to-full-coverage deployment waves.
  • Coordinate GitLab platform operations, Security, development teams, and management.
  • Perform technical reviews, make architectural decisions, coach engineers, and contribute to documentation and developer training.
  • Work hands-on on prototypes and critical technical implementation questions.

Requirements

  • Several years of experience as a Solution Architect, Lead Architect, or Senior DevOps Engineer.
  • Strong experience with GitLab, preferably in large-scale environments.
  • Practical experience with Renovate or a comparable automated dependency management solution.
  • Strong DevOps and CI/CD experience with scalable, distributed, and highly automated solutions.
  • Solid understanding of infrastructure and platform architecture.
  • Experience with APIs, authentication, credential management, security best practices, monitoring, logging, and observability.
  • Proven project management and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate as both a technical lead and project manager.
  • Hands-on, solution-oriented approach and fluent English.
  • Kubernetes, containerization, cloud infrastructure, enterprise Renovate, and large-scale repository rollout or migration experience are preferred.
