Responsibilities

Analyze system architecture, functionality, hardware specifications, and safety requirements for embedded software projects.
Lead the design, implementation, integration, testing, and analysis of safety-critical airborne embedded software.
Coordinate with systems engineering, safety engineering, configuration management, quality assurance, and airworthiness teams for certification.
Plan work assignments, feature sets, staffing, equipment needs, deadlines, and releases for hardware and system integration testing.
Prepare and present project status reports to BETA leadership and certifying authorities.
Create and maintain software certification plans, standards, and life-cycle data, and participate in certification audits and reviews.
Contribute directly to requirements management, software architecture and design, development, integration, troubleshooting, and test development.
Mentor junior engineers in DO-178C, real-time safety-critical software practices, integration, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited university.
At least 10 years of experience developing real-time embedded software for safety-critical systems.
Expert knowledge of activities and outputs required for DO-178C Level A compliance.
Strong experience with the full software life cycle for aerospace embedded software.
Ability to organize and lead a team of up to 20 software engineers.
Experience with Stage of Involvement reviews and communication with FAA personnel and DERs.
Experience with RTCA DO-330 tool qualification objectives, activities, and outputs.
Experience with RTCA DO-331 model-based development objectives, activities, and outputs.
Preferred experience includes safety-critical embedded software practices, communication devices and protocols, multicore processors, model-based software engineering, software product line engineering, formal methods, electric motor control, battery management systems, flight control systems, and project management.
