Responsibilities

  • Write and ship production software hands-on from the start while learning and improving the company’s existing stack.
  • Modernize the software development lifecycle with CI, testing, staging, feature flags, deploy processes, and coding agents.
  • Coach existing engineers and improve the team’s engineering practices.
  • Set the product and engineering roadmap with the general manager and own delivery trade-offs.
  • Introduce coding-agent workflows that accelerate the team’s development process.
  • Build AI product capabilities involving retrieval, tool use, evaluations, and guardrails in production.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including experience as a tech lead, founding engineer, small-company CTO, or primary engineer responsible for a product.
  • Production experience in at least three technology stacks and the ability to learn new stacks quickly.
  • Experience taking over messy codebases and helping discouraged engineering teams improve.
  • Daily experience using coding agents and the ability to demonstrate the setup.
  • Strong independent judgment and the ability to work directly with general managers, operators, and customers.
  • Preferred experience as a company’s first engineering leader, in vertical or B2B SaaS, or modernizing a legacy codebase without a rewrite.
