Responsibilities

Own the architecture and hands-on delivery of the Vector Store GenAI Platform, including search, retrieval, document processing, chunking, ingestion pipelines, and APIs.
Set technical direction for hybrid search and retrieval quality by evaluating embedding models and retrieval approaches through implementations, proofs of concept, and benchmarks.
Improve document parsing and chunking to support accurate, structured, and faceted retrieval across clinical document types.
Build stable and reproducible retrieval for agent and re-extraction workloads, including durable identifiers, context assembly, versioned indices, and quality signals.
Strengthen document classification, ingestion visibility, deduplication, clinical concept normalization, and retrieval quality at scale.
Integrate LLM capabilities into production systems with attention to performance, scalability, cost, observability, and safe operation.
Partner with clinical AI, engineering, product, and subject-matter stakeholders to prioritize work, define success metrics, and sequence roadmap investments.
Provide principal-level technical leadership through architecture decisions, design reviews, documentation, mentoring influence, and cross-team tradeoffs.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; an advanced degree or clinical or life sciences background is a plus.
10+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial ownership of production systems at scale.
5+ years building and shipping AI/ML-powered applications in production.
Deep hands-on experience with retrieval-augmented systems, vector search, document-centric AI pipelines, indexing, retrieval evaluation, and integration with LLM or agent systems.
A track record as a principal or equivalent individual contributor who sets technical direction, makes durable architecture decisions, and delivers critical-path production code.
Strong hands-on expertise in Python and modern software engineering practices, including testing, code review, workflow orchestration, and work in large existing codebases.
Experience designing and operating AI systems in cloud environments, with AWS strongly preferred.
Experience with observability and production support, plus the ability to work independently and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
Experience with clinical or structured healthcare documents, document-centric search or RAG systems, healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated industries is strongly preferred.
Experience designing retrieval interfaces for agents or multi-step LLM workflows is a plus.
