Principal Data Platform Software Engineer in USA

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design RaptorDB deployment, operations, resilience, backup, restore, replication, and failover solutions across hybrid infrastructure.
  • Set technical direction, make architectural decisions, lead cross-functional design sessions, and establish reference architectures and best practices.
  • Develop clean, maintainable software with automated testing, code reviews, and deployment pipelines.
  • Adopt cloud-native technologies including Kubernetes and Cloud-Native PostgreSQL.
  • Analyze and optimize performance, backup and restore times, recovery time objectives, and resource utilization across the database fleet.
  • Respond to urgent production incidents and advise customer-facing and internal teams on database operations challenges.
  • Create documentation, runbooks, and architectural decision records to scale institutional knowledge.
  • Collaborate with database development, infrastructure automation, systems engineering, security, architecture, and customer support teams.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 8+ years focused on database systems, infrastructure, or cloud platforms.
  • Deep expertise in database operations, operational management, and backup and restore strategies.
  • Experience designing and building distributed systems with high availability, failover, and disaster recovery architectures.
  • Hands-on proficiency with multiple programming languages such as Go and Python, plus strong software engineering practices.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, database operators, and operating databases in cloud environments.
  • In-depth Linux knowledge and excellent technical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience co-architecting and co-designing solutions across organizations and setting technical direction in collaborative environments.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to engineering and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience integrating AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving using AI-powered tools, automated workflows, or AI-driven insights.
  • Background in open-source databases is a plus.

  • Base pay of $240,100–$420,200, plus equity when applicable and variable or incentive compensation.
