Principal QA Engineer in Australia

Responsibilities

  • Own quality approaches for teams or product areas across every stage of the software development lifecycle.
  • Lead quality-left initiatives involving test automation, tooling, process improvements, and sustainable test frameworks.
  • Define and implement test approaches, quality strategies, standards, practices, and operating models.
  • Use quality metrics, telemetry, and reporting to identify risks and influence product and discipline leaders.
  • Coach QA and partner disciplines on test design, planning, execution, and quality decision-making.
  • Partner with engineering, delivery, design, creative, production, Game, and Central teams on strategic quality initiatives.
  • Contribute to hiring, mentorship, cross-team leadership, and the growth of the QA craft.
  • Help teams use AI-assisted development workflows responsibly while maintaining confidence in shipped software.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software quality assurance or quality engineering experience with multiple proven product successes.
  • Experience defining test approaches, implementing overall test strategies, and leading or maturing automated testing frameworks, tools, or processes.
  • Experience coaching QA team members and driving continuous improvement within a team or organisation.
  • Experience using quality metrics, telemetry, or reporting to assess quality health and influence decisions.
  • Experience influencing cross-functional teams, handling multiple projects and partners, and working with remote teams.
  • Experience establishing product or business-unit quality standards, practices, or operating models.
  • History of leading strategic quality initiatives with broad organisational impact.
  • Strong judgment in ambiguous problem spaces and strong technical acumen across systems, tooling, automation, and development workflows.
  • Ability to adapt quality strategy to emerging practices, including AI-assisted workflows and automation.
  • Game development experience and experience supporting or shipping games.
  • Experience across mobile, console, and PC platforms.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD maturity, release quality, and build or delivery workflows.
  • Familiarity with Unreal or other game engines.
  • Relevant certifications such as ISTQB Foundation, ISTQB Agile Tester, ISTQB Expert Level, ISTQB Advanced Test Manager, or ICAgile Test Expert.
