Senior Machine Learning Engineer in USA

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, deploy, monitor, and test production ML models and AI services.
  • Use LLM APIs, prompt engineering, structured outputs, function calling, fine-tuning, classical models, and rules to build production systems.
  • Write clean, testable production software, APIs, monitoring, and integration code.
  • Partner with Product Engineering, Product, and cross-functional teams to translate business needs into ML solutions and define API contracts.
  • Build evaluation frameworks, run experiments, and iterate on model and system performance.
  • Automate processes, build agentic workflows, and contribute reusable skills and context to Checkr’s agentic platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent depth from experience.
  • 6+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 2 years building ML systems that run in production.
  • Strong Python fluency and ability to write clean, testable, well-structured object-oriented code.
  • Hands-on experience using LLM APIs in production, including prompt engineering, structured outputs, function calling, cost management, and evaluation.
  • Experience building and maintaining APIs, working with CI/CD pipelines, and shipping code used by other engineers.
  • Experience with AI-assisted workflows, LLMs, code-generation tools, or agentic systems in production or operational contexts.
  • Preferred experience with MLOps platforms such as MLflow, SageMaker, or Vertex; document processing, OCR, or information extraction; PySpark or large-scale data processing; Ruby; compliance-sensitive domains; and dbt, Snowflake, or modern ELT tools.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with non-ML partners, operate with urgency through ambiguity, and take ownership of meaningful outcomes.
