Senior Orbital Software Engineer, Space in USA

Responsibilities

  • Own software solutions deployed to customers.
  • Develop on-orbit software capabilities for end-to-end mission systems.
  • Integrate legacy systems with new space and ground-based capabilities.
  • Write code, algorithms, and techniques to scale mission capabilities across users and customers.
  • Architect orbital software systems and interfaces with payload platforms, satellite bus platforms, networking solutions, and multi-domain systems.
  • Collaborate across teams to plan, build, and test complex functionality.
  • Create and analyze metrics for debugging and monitoring.
  • Triage issues, determine root causes, and coordinate next steps.
  • Partner with end users to translate mission needs into features while balancing user experience and engineering constraints.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to a team developing modular space capabilities.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering background from industry or school, ideally in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Ability to understand and navigate complex systems and detailed requirements quickly.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems with little oversight.
  • Clear communication and organizational skills, including documentation and training materials.
  • 8+ years of experience working with a variety of programming languages.
  • Experience with spacecraft software systems and spacecraft operations.
  • Experience with satellite mission autonomy, including fault isolation and recovery systems.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Preferred advanced expertise with Python, Go, Rust, or C++.
  • Preferred experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, or Helm deployment tooling.
  • Preferred experience with OMS/UCI standards and modular software services development.
