Senior Software Engineer - AI in Australia

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of Xero’s internal AI orchestration platform and shared agentic frameworks.
  • Define standards, patterns, and technical solutions that enable teams to build and run AI agents safely and at scale.
  • Build secure agentic access patterns for data and tools.
  • Develop governance, cost-tracking, AI model evaluation, and starter-template tooling.
  • Design, build, deploy, and run frontend applications, APIs, and backend services.
  • Design secure authentication and authorization patterns using OAuth/OIDC and similar approaches.
  • Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, designers, security teams, and other engineers.
  • Share knowledge, provide constructive feedback, and champion emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • Senior-level experience delivering considerable amounts of production-grade software.
  • Hands-on frontend experience with a modern framework such as React.
  • Experience designing, building, deploying, and running APIs and backend services in containerized environments.
  • Experience with Python or TypeScript.
  • Strong experience with automated testing across the full software stack and modern Git workflows.
  • Experience designing secure authentication and authorization patterns, including OAuth/OIDC approaches.
  • Practical experience building agentic AI systems, including agent loops, tool calling, pydantic-ai, or LangGraph.
  • Ability to communicate technical trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies and ability to work collaboratively across functions.
