Senior Software Engineer, Competitive Benchmarking in Others new

Responsibilities

  • Design performance and benchmarking workloads based on realistic customer or product scenarios.
  • Build and improve internal tooling, test harnesses, automation, and reusable workload components.
  • Write and maintain code primarily in Python.
  • Run benchmarks across cloud environments and database platforms while managing fairness, noise, cost, and repeatability.
  • Analyze latency, throughput, scalability, and infrastructure signals to identify bottlenecks and explain results.
  • Translate broad business or engineering questions into technical plans, success criteria, and milestones.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, Sales, and other stakeholders to make testing relevant and actionable.
  • Produce technical documents, reports, and summaries connecting findings to product decisions and field value.
  • Improve team standards for documentation, onboarding, prioritization, and benchmark execution.
  • Mentor peers and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building, debugging, and improving distributed and/or highly concurrent software systems.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including maintainable coding, performance profiling, and debugging complex issues.
  • Hands-on experience with MongoDB architecture, MongoDB Query Language, and MongoDB performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with load, stress, latency, or scalability testing methodologies.
  • Experience designing and implementing benchmarking or performance-validation workflows.
  • Strong coding skills in Python or a similar language, with the ability to learn new stacks quickly.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and the trade-offs of operating reliable applications at scale.
  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora, Cassandra, or other competing data platforms.
  • Ability to reason about relational and document data models, distributed systems behavior, and infrastructure bottlenecks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for explaining technical findings to different audiences.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity, establish structure, and operate with ownership and autonomy.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems and integrating automated tests into engineering workflows is preferred.
  • Experience creating reusable technical documentation, runbooks, or internal playbooks is preferred.
