Senior Software Engineer, Data Engineering in UK

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate production ETL pipelines on Databricks using Delta Live Tables and Spark across Finance, Payments, Product, and GTM domains.
  • Apply medallion architecture patterns and define governed, reusable data models across multiple layers.
  • Drive technical design for multi-team projects, including architecture, tradeoffs, and rollout plans.
  • Implement pipeline observability, failure detection, alerting, retry logic, and operational hygiene.
  • Integrate AI tooling into data workflows for pipeline triage, transformation code generation, and natural-language data access.
  • Mentor engineers through code and design reviews and support their growth into broader ownership.
  • Contribute to platform infrastructure with Terraform and use Unity Catalog for data contracts, access controls, and lineage.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of hands-on data engineering experience building and maintaining production pipelines and data models.
  • Deep proficiency with Databricks or similar platforms, including Delta Live Tables, Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, and PySpark or Spark SQL.
  • Strong SQL skills covering complex transformations, incremental materialization, schema evolution, and data quality validation.
  • Solid AWS experience building and operating data systems at scale.
  • Proficiency in Python for ingestion, transformation, testing, and utility tooling.
  • Experience with GitLab or similar CI/CD tooling and Terraform for infrastructure as code.
  • Exposure to AI tooling in data contexts, such as agents, LLM-assisted code generation, or self-serve analytics workflows.
  • Ability to define data models and pipeline designs for ambiguous requirements and deliver with minimal oversight.
  • Familiarity with financial, payments, or blockchain data is a plus.
  • Experience with Fivetran or similar ingestion tools is a plus.
