Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the GraphQL API layer for critical customer-facing experiences including search, discovery, and checkout.
  • Design performant and reliable schemas and query patterns, including federation, deprecation policies, and query complexity controls.
  • Identify and resolve GraphQL performance issues such as N+1 patterns, over-fetching, and slow resolvers in production.
  • Partner with product engineering teams as an internal platform owner to onboard, unblock, and improve engineering practices.
  • Drive query tracing, latency analysis, and SLA monitoring for the GraphQL layer.
  • Mentor engineers across the organization on GraphQL best practices.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend software engineering experience, including at least 2 years focused on GraphQL in a production environment.
  • Deep hands-on experience with GraphQL schema design, federation, resolvers, DataLoader patterns, persisted queries, and query cost analysis.
  • Experience operating high-throughput, customer-facing GraphQL APIs where reliability and latency are critical.
  • Strong understanding of observable and resilient distributed systems.
  • Fluency in at least one of Java, Go, or Node.js.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage stakeholders, and communicate and collaborate effectively in English.
  • Preferred: experience with GraphQL caching strategies, internal developer platforms, API product management, e-commerce, or startup environments.
