Senior Staff Data Platform Engineer in USA new

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical direction and architecture strategy for the data access layer.
  • Design and improve core data architecture for scalability, reliability, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Own features from design through production delivery and translate business requirements into cross-team solutions.
  • Lead design and code reviews across multiple teams.
  • Define functional, regression, integration, and performance test strategies.
  • Diagnose and resolve difficult production issues involving memory leaks, concurrency, locking, networking, and intermittent failures.
  • Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the organization.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of software development experience with a bachelor’s degree, 8+ years with a master’s degree, 5+ years with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership at the Staff or Senior Staff level or equivalent.
  • Expert-level Java development and object-oriented, modular software design.
  • Advanced-to-expert backend platform development experience.
  • Knowledge of relational databases and database technologies, including PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, and Trino.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and performance optimization at scale.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Deep understanding of software quality, reliability, observability, and production readiness.
  • Good understanding of cloud-based and distributed systems.
  • Ability to complete complex cross-team projects and troubleshoot difficult production issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including authoring design documents or RFCs and presenting technical strategy.
  • Experience integrating AI into engineering work is required; familiarity with ServiceNow, RDBMS internals, Neo4J, graph databases, Unix shell, DevOps environments, and customer-focused environments is preferred.

  • Flexible hybrid work arrangement requiring two days per week in a ServiceNow office location.
  • Base pay of $201,300 - $352,300 plus equity when applicable, variable or incentive compensation, and benefits.
