Senior/Staff Software Engineer in USA

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and ship complete product features across backend services, APIs, and responsive web interfaces.
  • Architect reliable, scalable, decoupled systems using Java, Kotlin, React, and TypeScript.
  • Drive new product development and solve complex platform-scaling challenges.
  • Translate ambiguous business goals into high-quality, production-ready code.
  • Promote robust testing, system observability, and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor engineers and raise code quality and technical standards across teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience building production-grade web applications and distributed systems.
  • Strong proficiency with Java, Kotlin, or other object-oriented programming languages.
  • Hands-on experience with React, TypeScript, web architecture, and UI state management.
  • Experience with REST or GraphQL API design and relational databases or alternative data stores such as PostgreSQL or DynamoDB.
  • Ability to solve complex, ambiguous problems and collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams.
  • Ability to work core EST hours when not located near a Toast office.
  • Interest in reducing human-in-the-loop friction through intelligent automation is a nice-to-have.
