Software Development Engineer in Test in UK

Responsibilities

  • Write, maintain, and extend automated test suites for a LUMA application module using Cucumber, TypeScript, Cypress, and Playwright where applicable.
  • Own day-to-day quality for the assigned area by contributing test scenarios, testing stories, and communicating release readiness.
  • Design and document functional, regression, and integration test cases.
  • Perform manual exploratory testing for early-stage features and scientifically complex areas.
  • Investigate and reproduce defects, create evidence-based bug reports in JIRA, and verify fixes.
  • Maintain trustworthy automated tests in CI pipelines and help improve test execution and reporting.
  • Interpret API documentation and convert it into meaningful automated test coverage.
  • Collaborate with developers, application scientists, DevOps engineers, product management, and test automation experts.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of experience in QA/testing, including at least one year of hands-on test automation.
  • Practical Cypress experience, including selectors, custom commands, debugging failures, and working with an existing Page Object Model.
  • Working knowledge of TypeScript or JavaScript, including promises and async/await.
  • Experience with BDD/Cucumber or willingness to learn it quickly, including Gherkin specifications.
  • Ability to design, document, and maintain clear, repeatable test scenarios.
  • Experience with Git and GitHub, including branching, pull requests, and code review.
  • Experience with JIRA or a similar issue-tracking system.
  • Experience testing React applications is preferred.
  • Playwright experience, API testing with Postman or REST clients, performance/load testing with K6, and experience validating data integrity across migrations or schema changes are additional qualifications.
  • A background or interest in science, engineering, or research software is beneficial.
