Software Engineer in Australia new

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate services for ingesting third-party data, owning features from design through production.
  • Deliver production-quality Java and Spring Boot code using Kafka or streaming event buses and DynamoDB-style entity stores.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, respond to incidents, improve runbooks, and manage ingestion failures, dead-letter queue cleanup, and replay.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions, ADRs, RFCs, schema decisions, and pipeline optimization.
  • Ensure permission-aware search results and graph entities while maintaining data quality.
  • Build dashboards and alerting, optimize throughput, and troubleshoot performance and scaling issues.
  • Collaborate with upstream and adjacent teams on cross-domain features.
  • Maintain runbooks, design documentation, and knowledge-sharing materials.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience building and operating backend services in production.
  • Strong proficiency in a JVM language, preferably Java, and a modern framework such as Spring Boot or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of distributed-systems fundamentals including consistency, event-driven or CDC pipelines, message queues, and idempotency.
  • Comfort with AWS, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience driving features from design to production with automated testing, monitoring, and on-call support.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to author design documents and collaborate across teams.
  • Preferred experience with Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, permission or ACL propagation, multi-tenancy, data residency, region routing, third-party data integrations, connector frameworks, and high-throughput low-latency systems.
