Software Engineer II - Android in USA

Responsibilities

  • Develop new Android features and platform capabilities using autonomous vehicle data and operational insights.
  • Build mobile features that drive autonomous vehicle adoption and business growth on Uber’s platform.
  • Lead technical projects from inception through design, deployment, and productionization.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, operations teams, internal stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Make technical trade-offs across speed, performance, quality, and business goals.
  • Define standards for testing, monitoring, and alerting and oversee complex incident management.
  • Improve engineering velocity, quality, and systemic technical debt through technical frameworks and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of software engineering experience.
  • Extensive hands-on Android development experience with Java and/or Kotlin, including code reviews.
  • Experience leading technical projects across their full lifecycle.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, system design, and architecture.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, ownership, motivation, and willingness to learn.
  • Preferred: master’s or PhD in a related field.
  • Preferred: hands-on autonomous vehicle systems development, testing, or optimization experience.
  • Preferred: product engineering experience, high-quality mobile UI and feature development, and experience with apps serving hundreds of millions of users.
  • Preferred: experience identifying architectural gaps and creating organization-wide frameworks that improve developer velocity and reduce technical debt.
  • Preferred: experience building relationships with stakeholders and external partners around a technical vision.

Salary: $171k - $190k/yr
