Software Security Engineer, Secure Frameworks in USA

Responsibilities

  • Build cryptographic frameworks, mTLS infrastructure, secure serialization, authorization systems, and other security foundations.
  • Partner with product, research, infrastructure, and security teams to integrate frameworks with lower-layer security controls.
  • Design, build, operate, and maintain security services and libraries from threat modeling through production and adoption.
  • Build and operate a zero-trust access gateway for Anthropic’s internal services.
  • Design and roll out authorization frameworks that enforce least privilege consistently.
  • Own cryptographic frameworks and libraries.
  • Mentor engineers, contribute to hiring, and help grow the security engineering culture.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of software engineering experience building security-relevant production systems and independently leading complex initiatives.
  • Strong programming skills in Go, Rust, or Python.
  • Deep understanding of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWTs, service-to-service authentication, and policy-based access control.
  • Hands-on experience with PKI, X.509, mTLS, and workload identity.
  • Working knowledge of applied cryptography, including primitive selection and composition, key management, and library failure modes.
  • Experience shipping and operating highly reliable Kubernetes services across cloud and on-premises environments, including on-call support.
  • Ability to resolve ambiguous technical problems across teams with clear ownership and communication.
  • Strong developer-experience orientation, clear communication across organizational levels, and interest in AI safety.
  • Preferred: experience building and driving adoption of organization-wide security frameworks or libraries.
  • Preferred: experience with zero-trust or BeyondCorp-style access gateways, identity-aware proxies, large-scale mTLS migrations, open-source cryptographic libraries, and policy-language or relationship-based authorization systems.
  • Preferred: familiarity with ML infrastructure, including training and inference serving.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Benefits

  • Annual salary range of $32,000—$485,000 USD.
  • Visa sponsorship is offered, with reasonable efforts made after an offer and support from an immigration lawyer.
  • Hybrid policy requiring staff to work from an office at least 25% of the time, with some roles requiring more office time.
