Responsibilities

  • Own solution architecture for high-performance data pipelines and microservices, including resilience, scalability, latency, observability, and security.
  • Define and drive re-platforming, refactoring, and microservices-decomposition modernization roadmaps.
  • Establish engineering standards for API design, event-driven integration, data modeling, testing strategy, CI/CD, and operational readiness.
  • Architect, design, and build core services using Java, Spring Boot, JPA, PostgreSQL or another relational database, and event-streaming patterns.
  • Lead real-time processing implementations using Apache Flink or Apache Beam.
  • Partner with engineers on code reviews, pair debugging, performance tuning, and production incident resolution.
  • Build automation and tooling for engineering efficiency, including scripting and testing automation with Python where needed.
  • Drive engineering delivery on GCP using Dataflow, Pub/Sub, GCS, Composer/Airflow, BigQuery or ClickHouse, and GKE.
  • Own operational excellence through monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, reliability improvements, and cost optimization.
  • Manage technical debt through clear prioritization and measurable outcomes.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience designing and delivering distributed systems and data-intensive applications.
  • Strong recent and demonstrable hands-on Java experience with Spring Boot, REST and event-driven services, JPA/Hibernate, and SQL performance tuning.
  • Proven system-design expertise covering microservices, asynchronous messaging, idempotency, consistency models, caching, rate limiting, and failure handling.
  • Solid experience delivering cloud-native solutions, preferably on GCP or an equivalent cloud platform with the ability to translate experience.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and deployment tooling, including GKE, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with observability tools including Prometheus, Grafana, Stackdriver/Cloud Monitoring, and distributed tracing.
  • Experience applying cloud and Kubernetes security practices, including secrets management, IAM, network segmentation, and secure SDLC.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and align architecture decisions with business priorities and operational constraints.
  • Front-end exposure to React and TypeScript is helpful but not essential.
