Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver major components of eBay’s data platforms from design through production rollout.
  • Design and evolve distributed systems supporting ingestion, streaming, lakehouse and warehouse workloads, catalog, and governance.
  • Build computation graph management, pipeline optimization, and dataset lifecycle capabilities for the Golden Data Sets platform.
  • Author architecture documents and contribute to long-term technical direction through design reviews.
  • Balance latency, correctness, scalability, cost, security, and compliance at large scale.
  • Drive operational excellence, including observability and incident response, for owned services.
  • Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and analytics teams on cross-team technical initiatives.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience, primarily in distributed systems or data platforms.
  • Experience designing and delivering critical large-scale distributed systems involving compute, storage, APIs, or streaming.
  • Ability to independently deliver complex projects from requirements through production.
  • Strong systems thinking, including anticipating bottlenecks, schema evolution, and reliability issues.
  • Strong communication skills and experience influencing cross-team technical outcomes.
  • Proficiency in Java or Python and containerized environments.
  • Hands-on expertise with Kafka or Flink, Spark, Delta or Iceberg, Kubernetes, and NoSQL or columnar stores.
  • Experience with streaming and batch data platforms and a strong foundation in algorithms and distributed design.
  • BS or MS in computer science, or equivalent experience.
