Responsibilities

  • Define multi-year technical strategy and architecture for Rider experiences across mobile applications, client platforms, edge capabilities, and backend services.
  • Set architectural direction for the Rider application and client platform so multiple teams can build and evolve experiences independently.
  • Establish engineering standards and foundations for architecture, dependency management, build health, application size, startup and runtime performance, observability, testing, and release quality.
  • Architect server-driven and cross-platform experience frameworks and make trade-offs among native, web-based, shared, and backend-driven implementations.
  • Define client-server contracts covering API design, schema evolution, backward compatibility, rollout safety, experimentation, offline behavior, and failure recovery.
  • Shape on-device and edge architectures while balancing latency, privacy, reliability, battery consumption, and cost.
  • Build frameworks, SDKs, developer tools, and reusable abstractions for product engineering teams.
  • Lead major architectural migrations, reduce systemic technical debt, and improve engineering velocity, reliability, performance, and product quality.
  • Drive ambiguous cross-organizational technical decisions and influence technical leaders and stakeholders across the organization.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience building and operating large-scale production applications on Android or iOS with deep mobile architecture expertise.
  • Experience driving major mobile architecture decisions involving modularization, application performance, build systems, dependency management, application size, or release infrastructure.
  • Experience designing APIs, data contracts, rollout mechanisms, and resilient end-to-end client-server experiences.
  • Track record of building platforms, frameworks, or engineering standards adopted by multiple teams.
  • Experience establishing multi-year technical direction and anticipating architectural risks.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives from strategy and design through global production adoption.
  • Ability to influence across organizational boundaries and align senior engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
  • Expertise in testing, performance, observability, reliability, and incident-management standards and practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Kotlin, Java, Swift, or Objective-C and ability to work across the broader technology stack.
  • Experience with server-driven experiences, cross-platform frameworks, hybrid applications, dynamic delivery, experimentation, and progressive rollouts.
  • Experience designing client-server protocols and contracts using GraphQL, gRPC, Protobuf, or equivalent API frameworks.
  • Experience with large monorepositories, Bazel, and mobile developer-productivity infrastructure.
  • Preferred experience with constrained-device and network optimization, on-device machine learning, model deployment, mobile ML runtimes, hardware-accelerated inference, and mobile experiences powered by LLMs or agents.
  • Experience representing an organization through technical forums, publications, conference talks, or open-source contributions.
