Staff Engineer (Product) in Canada

Responsibilities

  • Scope, plan, and lead large-scale technical initiatives aligned with business priorities and product roadmaps.
  • Design, build, and optimize scalable frontend and backend systems using React, TypeScript, and Node.js.
  • Deliver production-grade features while maintaining performance, security, reliability, testing, deployment, and CI/CD standards.
  • Debug and resolve complex issues across systems and services as a technical escalation point.
  • Improve application and infrastructure security practices, architecture, scalability, and developer experience.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to clarify requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers and influence technical direction across the organization.
  • Research emerging tools and technologies, including AI/ML applications, and promote continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 8–15 years of professional experience in software development with experience shipping large-scale, high-quality features and systems.
  • Strong frontend expertise with React and TypeScript.
  • Backend proficiency with Node.js; Kotlin experience is a plus.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including MySQL and DynamoDB.
  • Deep experience with API integration and third-party API management.
  • Familiarity with AWS or equivalent cloud infrastructure.
  • Proven system design, architecture, and performance optimization experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of application and infrastructure security best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and YAML configuration; Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Knowledge of automated testing frameworks and QA best practices.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching engineers and influencing without authority.
  • Experience with social networking platforms, accessibility standards, AI-powered development tools, monitoring solutions such as DataDog, or rapid iterative development environments is preferred.
