Staff Software Engineer in USA

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain mobile build and release infrastructure and productivity tools for hundreds of Android engineers.
  • Lead projects from planning through delivery, including prioritization, estimation, stakeholder alignment, and architectural reviews.
  • Analyze systems and processes to identify opportunities for automation and improvements in performance, security, privacy, and maintainability.
  • Contribute to existing tools and open-source technologies, and prototype infrastructure improvements such as Bazel remote execution.
  • Build mobile-specific AI agent workflows to improve developer productivity, migration efficiency, and codebase alignment.
  • Maintain Android Studio, Android versions, and third-party library dependencies.
  • Write tested, readable, maintainable code and debug, triage, and resolve issues across applications and tools.
  • Share knowledge through technical talks, brown bags, code reviews, and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers, support onboarding, participate in hiring, and contribute to engineering community initiatives.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering industry experience.
  • Experience supporting large Android builds; Bazel experience is a bonus.
  • Experience building command-line tools with Python or Bash.
  • Experience maintaining a high-performance CI pipeline.
  • Strong Kotlin knowledge; Jetpack Compose experience is a bonus.
  • Deep understanding of native mobile testing, including unit, snapshot, and UI testing.
  • Experience shipping large-scale Android applications or maintaining and operating large-scale infrastructure.
  • Strong product sense and attention to usability and design of developer tools.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with low ego across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience guiding teams through planning, prioritization, and execution, and helping build motivated teams with strong ownership.
  • Side projects or open-source project experience is a bonus.
  • Experience with AI, agentic programming, and developer-productivity tools such as Cursor is a bonus.

Salary: $176k - $220k/yr
