Staff Software Engineer - Back End in Others

Responsibilities

  • Own the full product lifecycle from business requirements and technology selection through coding standards, development, testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and operations.
  • Design, develop, and maintain FinTech platforms, scalable backend systems, data pipelines, and storage solutions.
  • Build stable, scalable, highly performant systems for financial technology applications.
  • Improve code quality, mentor engineers, and help establish strong engineering practices across the team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and departments to advance product and technology goals.
  • Use metrics, alarms, dashboards, and operational practices to support system reliability and performance.
  • Lead projects, initiatives, and teams while owning the systems involved.
  • Help recruit and onboard exceptional talent.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience developing high-performance production applications.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or Scala.
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop and real-time processing frameworks such as Apache Spark.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and data architecture.
  • Strong systems thinking, including understanding of edge cases, failure modes, and system lifecycles.
  • Experience with Scrum or Agile development methodologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Experience with operational excellence, metrics, alarms, and dashboards.
  • Preferred experience in modern FinTech or payments organizations.
  • Preferred knowledge of financial reconciliation, financial reporting, tax, virtual credit cards, or customer payments.
  • Preferred hands-on experience with Spark, ETL data pipelines, Kafka, RabbitMQ, GitLab, and Kubernetes.
  • Preferred experience with large-scale distributed systems and leading projects, initiatives, or teams.
