Responsibilities

Own the design, development, and automation of routing infrastructure for Kubernetes backends at scale.
Build routing capabilities on Envoy-based reverse proxies, Istio gateways, Ambient mesh, and SPIFFE service authentication.
Improve the latency, reliability, scalability, and performance of application routing systems across Coinbase’s production environment.
Shape the paved-road developer experience for operating applications, including AI-driven tooling, processes, and support.
Partner with Security, Reliability, and Observability teams on cross-cutting platform requirements.
Diagnose complex distributed-systems issues, identify root causes, and drive resolutions independently.

Requirements

8+ years of experience in software engineering and infrastructure roles.
5+ years of hands-on experience with application routing technologies, including reverse proxies, ingress controllers, CDN/WAF, and service mesh.
Proficiency in Go, Python, or Java, with experience building and shipping production-grade infrastructure services.
Experience scaling backend infrastructure on AWS, with knowledge of networking, compute, and container orchestration services.
Deep familiarity with the CNCF ecosystem, including Kubernetes, Envoy, and Istio, with experience extending or contributing to these technologies in production.
Ability to use generative AI responsibly with human oversight and apply AI tooling to infrastructure workflows to improve efficiency, reliability, or developer velocity.

Benefits

Remote-first, but not remote-only, with quarterly in-person working sessions called surges.
Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), equity, and bonus eligibility; equity and bonus are excluded from the stated base salary.

Salary: $218k - $257k/yr
