Responsibilities

  • Define the long-term architectural vision and engineering standards for high-availability, low-latency cloud platforms.
  • Lead multi-quarter modernization initiatives, including migration to resilient containerized cloud environments and optimization of deployment and auto-scaling patterns.
  • Direct distributed architecture integrations between Bitstamp’s exchange backend and Robinhood’s global infrastructure.
  • Design self-healing systems and automation to reduce operational toil, technical debt, and scalability bottlenecks.
  • Own ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives from inception through production while balancing speed, resilience, cost, and maintainability.
  • Mentor senior engineers, lead architectural design reviews, and establish engineering best practices.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for high-severity incidents, lead post-mortems, and implement safeguards for 24/7 platform resilience.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in backend and distributed-systems engineering.
  • Proven experience operating as a technical lead or Staff-level engineer in high-scale environments.
  • Advanced expertise with containerization, orchestration, and enterprise-scale AWS cloud services, including Docker, Kubernetes, EC2, ECS/EKS, Aurora, and DynamoDB.
  • Deep understanding of high-concurrency, low-latency backend architectures, event-driven systems, fault tolerance, and data consistency models.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently take ambiguous, organization-wide problems from inception to production.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build technical consensus and influence cross-functional roadmaps across multiple geographies.
  • Systems-thinking and operational experience supporting a 24/7 financial exchange.
