Staff Software Engineer - Growth in USA new

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture and delivery of scalable backend systems supporting acquisition, activation, conversion, retention, and expansion.
  • Design and evolve high-throughput, low-latency, highly available distributed systems, including microservices, event-driven architectures, experimentation platforms, and data pipelines.
  • Transform customer, product, lifecycle, behavioral, and intent signals into data products, decision systems, personalized journeys, and next-best actions.
  • Partner with Product, Data Science, Frontend, Design, Marketing, and Engineering teams to deliver secure and measurable technical solutions.
  • Lead architectural reviews, code reviews, mentoring, observability, resilient service design, and engineering standards.
  • Build experimentation, feature-flag, performance-monitoring, and AI-native growth foundations while protecting customer data and meeting regulatory expectations.
  • Drive complex initiatives from problem definition through production operation with substantial autonomy.

Requirements

  • Significant experience designing, building, and operating production backend systems with ownership from technical design through ongoing improvement.
  • Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals, object-oriented programming, distributed systems, domain-driven design, and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong experience building high-throughput, low-latency, highly available services and systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or a comparable backend language.
  • Experience with continuous integration, automated testing, code review, and quality engineering.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and containerized deployments such as GCP or AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with observability and production operations using tools such as Splunk, Grafana, or Prometheus.
  • Track record of leading ambiguous, cross-functional technical initiatives and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Preferred experience with JVM development using Java or Kotlin and Spring or Spring Boot.
  • Preferred experience with experimentation platforms, feature-flag systems, growth infrastructure, customer segmentation, analytics products, data warehousing, event pipelines, lifecycle systems, or analytics tooling.
  • Experience with go-to-market or growth operations problems, AI or large language model products, or fintech, payments, or regulated environments is preferred.

Benefits

  • The role is based in Seattle and requires working from the office three days per week.

Salary: $163k - $279k/yr
