Responsibilities

Set the technical direction of the Maps teams and partner with engineering leadership on major technical investments and tradeoffs.
Build geospatial systems, integrations, data ingestion and processing pipelines, map-serving systems, and APIs supporting foundational features across Samsara products.
Scale storage, querying, and computation for real-time location-dependent features.
Consolidate team-specific geospatial solutions into scalable platform-wide offerings.
Build agentic solutions that let customers self-serve the data they want to see.
Raise the technical bar through code reviews, design discussions, mentorship, external talks, open source, and community engagement.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of software development experience, including at least 2 years in an architect or technical leadership role.
Strong programming and software design fundamentals.
4+ years working on large-scale distributed systems.
4+ years leading technical projects across multiple teams.
Preferred experience with GIS, spatial analysis, PostGIS, spatial SQL, GeoPandas, Shapely, QGIS, and geospatial data validation.
Preferred familiarity with GeoParquet, OpenStreetMap, OSM PBF, and ingesting, transforming, validating, or serving geospatial datasets.
