Staff Software Engineer - Mobile in Australia

Responsibilities

  • Set and champion strategic technical direction for Android, including architecture, platform evolution, framework upgrades, and migration pathways.
  • Own engineering delivery from ideation and design through build, testing, release, and production support.
  • Modernize payment experiences and evolve legacy mobile components into reusable and scalable solutions.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Security, backend, and engineering teams to deliver secure and reliable customer journeys.
  • Champion architecture, automated testing, continuous delivery, performance, security, and observability practices.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership and solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Mentor engineers and improve Android capability, quality, and engineering practices across teams.
  • Influence end-to-end solutions spanning the CommBank app, APIs, and cloud services.

Requirements

  • Deep Android development experience using Kotlin, the Android SDK, and Jetpack Compose.
  • Strong knowledge of mobile architecture, including MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture, and modular design.
  • Experience with dependency injection, object-oriented design, SOLID principles, and established software design patterns.
  • Proven delivery of secure and reliable mobile applications supported by automated testing, continuous delivery, and production observability.
  • Experience integrating REST or GraphQL APIs and working with cloud services such as AWS.
  • Ability to lead technical decisions, challenge existing approaches constructively, and build support for strategic engineering direction.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and improving capability, quality, and engineering practices across teams.
  • Exposure to iOS, Swift, .NET, C#, microservices, or regulated technology environments is beneficial.
