Staff Software Engineer, Observability in USA

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the observability roadmap as a product focused on engineering team needs and measurable impact.
  • Architect, build, and scale distributed observability infrastructure for metrics, logs, traces, and telemetry.
  • Build high-performance data pipelines and storage for real-time and historical analysis.
  • Establish observability standards and patterns across the organization.
  • Mentor engineers, lead architectural reviews, and influence technical decisions across teams.
  • Collaborate with SRE, Infrastructure, Product Engineering, and other teams to improve developer productivity and system reliability.
  • Evaluate and adopt new observability tools and techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems.
  • Strong data engineering experience with data pipelines, time-series databases, columnar storage, stream processing, and large-scale data modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with metrics, logging, tracing, profiling, and modern observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
  • Expert-level production coding ability in Java, Python, Go, or Scala.
  • Experience building observability platforms from the ground up or significantly scaling existing solutions.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and technologies, including Kubernetes and service mesh technologies.
  • Experience driving adoption of internal platforms through documentation, user experience, and developer advocacy.
  • Experience applying machine learning or anomaly detection to observability use cases.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-influence skills.
  • Contributions to open-source observability projects are a plus.

Salary: $177k - $365k/yr
