Responsibilities

Set technical direction for how orders are modeled, stored, replicated, and reconciled.
Design and build event-sourced and replicated-state systems that remain correct under retries, network partitions, concurrent edits, and partial failures.
Partner with Product, Payments, Reporting, point-of-sale, and mobile engineers to ship reliable end-to-end ordering flows.
Review designs and code, mentor engineers, and build team fluency in distributed-systems patterns.
Improve observability, replay, and recovery while minimizing costs.
Share platform context and document how the system works to reduce bus-factor risk.
Work directly with restaurants to solve customer needs, including through in-person visits and phone or text communication.

Requirements

Hands-on experience with event sourcing, CRDTs, or comparable approaches to replicated and offline-first data, such as sync engines or conflict-resolution layers.
Experience with idempotency, optimistic concurrency, event replay, projections, and reconciliation.
Ability to reason about node failures during operations and design resilient systems.
Ability to learn specialized technologies quickly and improve their robustness.
Staff-level experience leading technical direction while remaining hands-on with code.
Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to make complex systems easier for others to understand.
Backend experience in payment or ordering systems is preferred.
Experience in restaurants, retail, or IT is helpful but not required.
