Staff Software Engineer, Security in USA

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison among Engineering, Security, and Product to develop requirements for the security roadmap.
  • Research, design, implement, and own security-oriented frameworks and features that protect Okta customers.
  • Evangelize security best practices across the engineering organization.
  • Participate in cross-vertical code reviews with an emphasis on security.
  • Prototype rapidly, break down complex problems, and contribute iteratively to security initiatives using agile practices.
  • Troubleshoot and fix production issues affecting reliability, security, and performance.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including cookbooks and design and architecture documents.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of development experience designing and implementing software systems in Java.
  • 4+ years of experience designing and implementing security solutions for applications and distributed systems.
  • Experience with Application Security, Cryptography, Authentication, Authorization, Certificates, and Secrets Management.
  • Experience using cloud service providers such as AWS and GCP.
  • Experience with RDBMS such as MySQL, including replication and clustering, and familiarity with Redis and Elasticsearch.
  • Understanding of post-quantum cryptography, quantum-resistant algorithms, cryptographic migration strategies, and secure enterprise integration.
  • Understanding of designing, developing, and securing production-grade agentic AI systems, including autonomous and multi-agent architectures.
  • Strong security and engineering leadership, software engineering knowledge, written and verbal communication, and strategic problem-solving skills.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Must be located on U.S. soil and qualify as a U.S. person; working on a U.S. visa does not qualify as U.S. person status.

Salary: $174k - $267k/yr
