Responsibilities

Provide technical guidance and direction for a team building reliable, performant, and cost-efficient storage systems at massive scale.
Lead the architecture, design, and evolution of online structured storage services supporting SQL/table-style and graph-style workloads.
Drive modernization initiatives, including transitioning datasets and workloads onto the TiDB backend.
Improve query throughput and latency through measurement, experimentation, and performance engineering.
Use AI for system design, architectural analysis, documentation, runbooks, reporting, QA checks, and other repeatable operational work.
Participate in the Storage Services on-call rotation, including monitoring, alert response, diagnosis, resolution, and status communication.
Lead design reviews, operational readiness efforts, and blameless post-incident reviews.
Mentor senior engineers and develop storage infrastructure technical leaders.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
8+ years of hands-on backend software engineering experience in large-scale distributed systems.
Experience building or managing core infrastructure systems at scale, preferably online structured data storage, distributed databases, or large-scale data platforms.
Experience building and operating highly available, reliable production systems, including incident response, capacity planning, schema or architecture evolution, and performance tuning.
Strong understanding of distributed SQL or NoSQL database internals, or large-scale graph and relationship-oriented data stores and query patterns.
Experience working with or migrating to modern distributed storage or database technologies; TiDB experience is a strong plus.
Demonstrated technical leadership in roadmap setting, technical direction, engineering alignment, and cross-team execution.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to use data to guide decisions.
Experience coding in Java, Python, and/or C/C++.
Experience leveraging AI to accelerate development, enhance operations, and improve customer support.

Benefits

The role is remote-capable anywhere in the country but requires in-office collaboration 1–2 times per month.
The position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
US-based applicants only.
The position is eligible for equity in addition to the stated base salary range.

Salary: $177k - $365k/yr
