Senior Engineer - AI Platform in Australia new

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of Xero’s internal AI orchestration platform and agentic frameworks.
  • Design and implement secure agentic access patterns for data and tools.
  • Build governance, cost-tracking, and AI model evaluation tooling.
  • Create shared patterns and starter templates that help engineers ship AI solutions faster.
  • Design, build, deploy, and operate frontend applications, APIs, and backend services in containerized environments.
  • Translate functional requirements and technical trade-offs into scalable solutions for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, designers, security teams, and engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Considerable experience delivering production-grade software with hands-on frontend experience in a modern framework such as React.
  • Experience designing, building, deploying, and running APIs and backend services using Python or TypeScript in containerized environments.
  • Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, modern Git workflows, and automated testing across the software stack.
  • Experience designing secure authentication and authorization patterns, including OAuth/OIDC or similar approaches.
  • Practical experience building agentic AI systems, including agent loops, tool calling, and frameworks such as pydantic-ai or LangGraph.
  • Ability to communicate technical trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders and remain current with emerging technologies.
