Responsibilities

Own major projects in the dual execution stack so DuckDB queries can run locally or in the cloud.
Build cloud platform capabilities for dynamic resource assignment across workloads and instance sizes.
Lead cross-functional work with frontend, platform, and infrastructure teams.
Improve embedded database performance, distributed execution, DuckDB internals, and system architecture.
Debug customer issues with Support and prioritize improvements based on usage patterns.
Mentor teammates, document DuckDB expertise, and improve engineering practices.
Collaborate with DuckDB Labs to align APIs and shape DuckDB’s future.

Requirements

Experience building and shipping complex backend systems.
Fluency in C++, Rust, Java, or similar systems languages, with C++ and Rust especially valued.
Understanding of query engines, execution plans, indexing, and performance optimization.
Hands-on DuckDB experience is a major plus.
Experience with cloud infrastructure, networking, and low-latency distributed systems.
Ability to scope and lead projects across collaborators and cross-functional dependencies.
Strong design judgment, thoughtful tradeoff analysis, mentoring ability, and interest in open-source or DuckDB community engagement.
