Staff Back End Engineer, Platform in USA

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and scale RESTful backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Postgres.
  • Develop distributed and resilient architectures in AWS and Kubernetes environments.
  • Create shared infrastructure services and tooling used across Altruist product teams.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership, product managers, and cross-functional teams on complex technical problems.
  • Mentor teams on secure coding practices and help ensure performant, resilient code.
  • Use automated testing practices to deliver high-quality software.
  • Work with significant autonomy on the design and implementation of platform projects.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience building scalable backend services at a B2B financial services, fintech, or SaaS organization.
  • Proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs.
  • Expertise in distributed systems and microservices architecture.
  • Strong SQL knowledge, including Postgres and MySQL.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • Understanding of performant and reliable systems.
  • A relevant B.A. or B.S. degree is preferred, though experience and understanding are also valued.
  • Familiarity with modern technologies such as Kubernetes, Kafka, Temporal, and Snowflake.
  • Bonus experience with AI best practices, particularly Claude.
  • Bonus experience with cloud infrastructure, especially AWS.
  • Experience with GitLab pipelines is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Debezium, Temporal, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Knowledge of brokerage platforms and the financial services industry is beneficial.
  • Strong ownership, communication, problem-solving, resilience, and collaborative judgment.

Salary: $181k - $265k/yr
