Responsibilities

  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain resilient and scalable features across Toast’s enterprise products.
  • Lead complex projects spanning multiple teams and systems.
  • Collaborate with product management, UX, QA, engineers, and other teams to develop features and products.
  • Drive high-quality technical output and sound engineering decisions.
  • Provide design feedback, participate in code reviews, and champion software development and CI/CD best practices.
  • Build automated tests and ensure reliable production delivery and operation of features.
  • Monitor feature success and failures after rollout.
  • Mentor and coach peer engineers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building backend services and RESTful APIs.
  • Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages such as Java or Kotlin.
  • Hands-on experience building fault-tolerant, highly scalable, and secure distributed systems.
  • Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases and a strong understanding of distributed datastores.
  • Strong foundations in data structures and algorithms.
  • Deep understanding of testing, quality, and software development lifecycle best practices.
  • Experience testing applications and delivering reliable software to production.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or similar.
  • Strong cross-team communication skills on complex technical topics.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience building Android applications is a nice-to-have.
